Aylostera pulvinosa (F. Ritter & Buining) Backeb.


This is a very distinctive plant once it gets past a few years old. The name means “cushioned” and it does indeed form large dense cushion-like clusters (albeit one you would not want to sit on!) Usually the spines are short (although longer spined varieties do exist) and the flowers are relatively small and orange.
