This plant is sometimes regarded as a form of Aylostera pygmaea or A. iscayachensis.
FR1114 is the type plant for the species and was discovered by Friedrich Ritter at Mal Paso, Sud Chichas, PotosÃ, Bolivia in 1962, described as Rebutia tropaeolipicta. In the description the flower colour is described as like a Nasturtium, which is not particularly helpful since Nasturtiums come in a variety of colours! However Ritter also gives a colour card index entry which shows the colour to be a bright orange, typical of the most commonly found Nasturtium in garden centres. There are plants with the field number FR1114 in some nurseries which are clearly not correct, being more akin to A. eos with a white or pinkish white flower.
