Weingartia (Sulcorebutia) roberto-vasquezii was first described by L. Diers and W. Krahn, in Kakteen und andere Sukkulenten, 9, 211-217, in 2005.

Regarded by some as a synonym of Weingartia crispata.

This is one of the few Weingartia (Sulcorebutia) species which is commonly found with white flowers, though plants with pink-edged white, pale pink or deep pink flowers also occur.

The plant has dark green, spherical bodies with white spines, up to about golf-ball size, solitary or clustering a bit.
