Aylostera vulpina (F. Ritter) Mosti & Papini


Regarded by some as a form of Aylostera spegazziniana. Sometimes confused with A. fusca or A. deminuta, to the latter of which it is very similar but has darker spines. Forming clustering, medium-sized, darkish-green spheroid bodies. Spines are brownish, stiff, projecting a bit from the body. Flowers are bright darkish red, petals with slightly darker red tips; with white stigmas and yellow anthers.
