Weingartia (Sulcorebutia) elizabethae was first noted as Sulcorebutia mojocoyensis var. elizabethae by J. deVries in 1999, and subsequently described as Sulcorebutia elizabethae in Succulenta 83(1): 34-37 in 2004.
This tiny little plant with the vivid lemon-yellow flowers is regarded by some as a form of Weingartia caniguerallii, W. mojocoyensis or W. tarabucoensis. Regarded as distinctive enough to be given specific status by Hentzschel & Augustin (2008).
