Aylostera kupperiana (Boed.) Backeb.


Regarded by some as a form of Aylostera robustispina, A. pseudodeminuta or A. spegazziniana. This plant forms clusters of spheroid stems which are usually fairly dark green (but see RW269 below) with a reddish or brownish sheen. The radial spines are usually white with brown tips, but the longer central spines are brown. Flowers are red with white stigmas.
