New plants added to the shop & getting ready for winter

Following some repotting today some new plants were added to the shop. Take a look!

Plants had their last watering of the season two weeks ago, and are gradually getting ready for the winter. During this time they reduce in size a little bit, and go dormant. While they are “asleep” over the winter they will get no water, and will be kept in relative cold. The glasshouse is kept above 4 degrees C, since we have a few tender species, but most plants in the national collection can stand going down to freezing for brief periods.

Their first watering of the spring is usually in early March, if the weather starts to improve. Sunshine during the day is the key- it warms up the greenhouse and gets the plants thinking about growing again.
