Aylostera tropaeolipicta description


The original description of Rebutia (Aylostera) tropaeolipicta was published in Kakteen und andere Sukkulenten 28(4): 76, 1977, the journal of the Deutsche Kakteen-Gesellschaft, by Friedrich Ritter.

Rebutia tropaeolipicta Ritter spec. nov.

Solitaria, ca. 2 cm crassa, radice alba rapacea; costae ca. 12, ca. 3—4 mm altae, crenatae; areolae ca. 2 mm longae, 0,5 mm latae, 1,5-2,5 mm inter se remotae, lana fere carentes; spinae 10-14, solum marginales, pectinatae, 1,5-3,5 mm longae, basi fusca.

Flores ca. 35-38 mm longi ; ovarium lana alba non abundanti et interdum saeta alba instructum; stylus 2-3 mm cum tubo coalitus; sulcus nectarifer ca. 4 mm longus; tubus floralis 12 mm longus, interne pallidus, externe ut ovarium; filamenta roseopurpurea, superne flaveola; lacuna insertiorum ca. 7 mm; stylus viridis, stigmata flava, ca. 7, ca. 3 mm longa; petala 14 mm longa, 5—7 mm lata, spathulata, obtusa, colore tropaeoli (6), externa mucronata, pallide purpurea; semina brunneoatra, 1,2 mm longa, tenuiter tuberculata; habitat Mal Paso, Prov. Sud-Chichas, Bolivia.

Rebutia tropaeolipicta Ritter spec. nov.

Solitary, ca. 2cm thick, with a fleshy tap root; ca. 12 ribs, ca. 3 – 4mm high, notched; areoles ca. 2mm long, 0.5mm wide, 1.5mm – 2.5mm between each; almost no wool; 10 – 14 spines, marginal only, pectinate, 1.5 – 3.5mm long, brown at the base.

Flowers ca. 35 – 38mm long; ovary with sparse white wool and sometimes a few white bristles; style fused to the tube by 2 – 3mm; nectary groove ca. 4mm long; floral tube 12mm long, internally pale, externally as for the ovary; stamens pinkish purple, upper part yellowish; inserted into cavity ca. 7mm; style green, stigmas (7) yellow, ca. 3mm long; petals 14mm long, 5 – 7mm wide, spatulate, blunt, colour Nasturtium (6)*, outer petals pointed, pale purple; seed brownish black, 1.2mm long, finely warty; habitat Mal Paso, Prov. Sud-Chichas, Bolivia.
