The type plant for this species, discovered by Walter Rausch between Camargo and Culpina, Chuquisaca, Bolivia at an altitude of 3300m, and described in 1972. Three plants here, showing some variation among WR302 in cultivation. The pink flowered form is an aberration, grown from seed. Other plants grown from the same batch of seed are all red flowered with the typical striped outer petals.
