Aylostera mamillosa (Rausch) Mosti & Papini


A much-misidentified species, which is difficult to find. I have several plants in the collection, including several different plants labelled WR302 (the type plant). The variation between these is quite wide, including a pink aberration grown from seed.

Friedrich Ritter further described three varieties: Aylostera mamillosa var. mamillosa, A. m. var. australis, and A. m. var. orientalis. All three names are given to a variety of different plants in nurseries. Rausch stated that he believed the species to be related to A. pseudodeminuta, A. spegazziniana and A. fulviseta. A. m. var. australis is sometimes regarded as A. spegazziniana and A. m. var. orientalis is sometimes regarded as A. fulviseta.
