Weather trouble

Weather station

But maybe not in the way you think! For the last year and a half we have been having trouble with our roof vents. Since these are 4m off the ground, they are operated by motors, with an automated system which monitors the inside temperature, the outside temperature, the wind speed and direction, the light intensity and whether or not it is raining. Basically, when it is windy one side or the other should close; and both sides close when it is raining. The vents have 10 positions depending on the inside temperature.

To cut a long story short it stopped working, and it has been a real nightmare to work out why. It turns out there were three reasons! The control box was letting in water and a circuit board corroded; the capacitor on one of the motors gave out; and the anemometer on the outside weather station was letting in water.

All of this has meant a lot of cost in replacing parts, to the tune of around £2000. But today, I finally managed to get it all working!
