Rebutia senilis Backeberg

An attractive, usually red-flowered plant with white stigmas and fine white spines, sometimes confused in nurseries with Aylostera albipilosa. Its popularity since discovery in the 1930s has led to a number of varieties. Two of these which have been found in the wild are Rebutia senilis var. kesselringiana with yellow flowers and R. senilis var. lilacino-rosea with lilac flowers. The latter has a similar flower colour to R. violaciflora and is therefore sometimes confused with it.
