Aylostera orurensis description


Lobivia (Aylostera) orurensis was first described in Kaktus ABC, on p. 243 in Danish and on p. 415 in Latin, by C. Backeberg in 1935. Additional notes are provided in the Danish version, including that the bodies can be reddish around the somewhat upwards-facing tubercles; and that the bodies are darker and spines shorter than other “pygmaea” types. The description states that the flower is “probably red”.

Gregaria, multiceps, colonias applanatas parvas formans, obscure-olivacea, 1—2 cm diametro, costis ca. 9, dimidio superiore in tubercula parva divisis, ca. 3 mm latis 2 mm altis, areolis- 2 mm inter se remotis, sparse brunneo-tomentosis; aculeis ca, 10, 1—2 mm longis, pectinatim ordinatis, luteo-albis, flore rubro? [sic] — Bolivia: prope Oruro.

Proliferating, multi-headed, forming small, flat colonies, dark olive coloured, 1 – 2 cm diameter, ca. 9 ribs, upper part divided into small tubercles, ca. 3 mm wide and 2 mm high, areoles 2 mm apart, sparsely brown-wooled; ca 10 spines, 1 – 2 mm long, arranged pectinately, yellowish-white, flower red?
