Aylostera friedrichiana description


Rebutia (Aylostera) friedrichiana was originally described in Succulenta 55(6), p.103, by Walter Rausch in 1976.

Rebutia (Digitorebutia) friedrichiana Rausch spec. nov.

Simplex, brevi-cylindrica, ad 50 mm alta et 30 mm diametiens, glauca, violaceo-asperata, radice, napiformi magna carnosa; costis 11, recte adscendentibus vel paulum tortis, crenis transversis in gibberes 6 mm latos et 3 mm longos, planos divisis; areolis ovalibus, 2 mm longis, flavidotomentosis; aculeis marginalibus 11 -13, ad 4 mm longis, accumbentibus, setosis, albis; aculeo centrali 0.

Floribus lateralibus, 30 mm longis et diametientibus; ovario et receptaculo violaceo, squamis atro-fuscis, pilis et setis albis tecto; phyllis perigonia exterioribus spathulatis, violaceo-roseis, medio-fusco-striatis; phyllis perigonii interioribus spathulatis, rotundis et serratis, fulgide-aurantiacis; flore paulum flori pleno simili; fauce 15 mm longa, dimidio eius cum stylo connata, albido-grisea; filamentis flavidis, stylo et stigmatibus (6) viridibus.

Patria Bolivia, Cinti meridionalis, ante La Cueva, 3.500 m ait.

English translation

Rebutia (Digitorebutia) friedrichiana Rausch spec. nov.

Plant unbranched, short cylindrical, up to 50 mm in height and 30 mm in diameter, with thick fleshy tap root; ribs 11, straight or slightly twisted, divided by transverse grooves into tubercles 6 mm wide and 3 mm long, grey-green and violet. Areoles oval, 2 mm long, with yellowish felt.

Lateral spines 11 -13, up to 4 mm long, close-fitting, brush-like, white. No central spines.

Flowers appearing on the side, 30 mm in length and 30 mm in diameter; ovary and flower tube violet with black-brown scales, white hairs and bristles; outer petals spatulate, violet-pink with dark brown central stripe; inner petals spatulate, round and serrated, bright orange, slightly double-flowered; throat 15 mm long and half fused with the style, whitish grey; stamens yellowish, style and stigmas (6) green.

Location: Bolivia, South Cinti, in front of La Cueva at 3500 m altitude.
