The original description of Lobivia (Aylostera) atrovirens was published in Kaktus ABC by C. Backeberg (edited by C. Backeberg & F. M. Knuth) in 1935, p. 414.

Here is the text of the description, in the Latin and Danish as published, and with an English translation which is my own.

Lobivia atrovirens Bckbg. sp. n.

Betaeformis, ad 7 cm longa 2 cm crassa, juvenilis nitide obscuro-viridis; costis ca. 15, plus minusve rectis, valde applanatis, ca. 4 cm latis, in tubercula subrotunda divisis, areolis persparse tomentosis mox glabris; aculeis marginalibus 9—12, tenuissimis, asperulis, basi bulbosis, albidis vel superioribus brunnescentibus, incurvatis, ad 2—3 mm longis.

Argentina: Salta-Jujuy.

Planten, der gaar lige over i en roeformet Rod, er indtil 7 cm lang og 2 cm tyk, skinnende mørkegrøn paa de yngre Dele. C. 15 Ribber, meget flade, c. 4 mm brede, helt opløste i rundagtige, noget opadrettede Pukler; Ribberne er dog alligevel tydelige, fortløbende, lige nedløbende. 9—12 Randtorne, ganske fine, ru, stærkt løgformet fortykkede forneden, 2—3 mm lange, alle noget indadkrummede, hvidlige, de øvre dog brunlige. Areolerne er som unge ganske svagt haarede, men bliver hurtigt nøgne. — Argentina: Salta, Jujuy, paa højtliggende Steder.

Afviger ved sin skinnende, mørkegrønne Farve og ved de indadbøjede Torne saa meget fra alle andre, at det ikke er betænkeligt at beskrive den uden at kende Blomsten.

The plant, which goes straight into a tap root, is up to 7 cm long and 2 cm thick, shiny dark green on the younger parts. C. 15 Ribs, very flat, c. 4 mm wide, completely dissolved in round, somewhat upward-facing humps; However, the ribs are still clear, continuous, straight down. 9—12 radial spines, quite fine, rough, strongly onion-shaped thickened at the base, 2-3 mm long, all somewhat inwardly curved, whitish, the upper ones somewhat brownish. The areoles are quite slightly hairy when young, but quickly become naked.

Argentina: Salta, Jujuy, on high places.

Differs so much from all others by its shiny, dark green colour and by the inward-bent thorns that it is not worrying to describe it without knowing the flower.
