Aylostera pulvinosa description


The original description of Rebutia (Aylostera) pulvinosa was published in Taxon (1963) p. 29, the journal of the International Association for Plant Taxonomy, IAPT by Friedrich Ritter.

Rebutia pulvinosa (subg. Aylostera) Ritter & Buining, sp. nova, a R. albipilosa Ritter (cf. speciem praecedentem 3) recedit: corpore 2,5-3 mm diam.; costis in tuberculos valde distinctos solutis; areolis 0,75-0,5 mm diam.; spinis minus tenuibus, radialibus 15-22, 1,5-3 mm longis, centralibus 6, fortioribus, brunneis; floribus 18 mm longis, 15 mm diam.; ovario globoso, 4 mm diam.; tubo florali +/- 10 mm longo, albo-setaceo; tepalis 7 mm longis, 3-4 mm latis, apice emarginatis, aurantiacis; staminibus biseriatis; stylo 13 mm longo; fructu et seminibus multo minoribus.

Habitat: In a gorge of the Rio Playa, northeast of Tarija, Bolivia. Collected as FR766.

English translation

Rebutia pulvinosa (subg. Aylostera) Ritter & Buining, new species, differs from R. albipilosa (see the 3 preceeding species [in the publication]) as follows: stem body 2.5 – 3mm in diameter; ribs broken up into distict tubercles; areoles 0.75 – 0.5mm in diameter; radial spines 15 – 22, quite thin, 1.5 – 3mm long; central spines stronger, 6, brown; flowers 18mm long and 15mm in diameter; ovary spherical, 4mm in diameter; flower tube more or less 10mm long, with white hairs; petals 7mm long and 3 – 4mm wide, with an emarginated (notched) tip; orange; stamens in two rows; style 13mm long; fruit and seeds much smaller.

Habitat: In a gorge of the Rio Playa, northeast of Tarija, Bolivia. Collected as FR766.
